Can you help an interested but ignorant voter out?

I often hear that we have surrendered elements of our own sovereignty to the EU, I heard Farage say it this morning on R4 Today. But I've no idea what elements they are.

Can you enumerate them? I've always dismissed UKIP's one policy as basically "Wuh! Europe! Foreigns!" but I think it's about time I took a moment to actually understand what their problem with Europe is. If you can help.
