The senior leaders at the club have got themselves in a great big hole

By, it seems, being simply unable to avoid the temptation to dig out the fan base at every opportunity over recent years. We have a lot of fans who are never happy. It's a bunch of bitter snakepit divorcees. The club is amazingly well run and if you can't see it its your problem. I don't even recognise concerns around Mrs Webber's role creating a potential conflict, and to even question that is very stupid. Transfers have been excellent, and you should all shut up and be grateful. It's the fans fault the team hasnt winning, because we arent making any noise (despite the team/management serving up terrible football and bad results).

You dont have to think back too hard to find countless examples of stuff like this. Right?

And yes at the heart of a lot of it was Stu, who clearly thought we were ungrateful, ignorant c**ts. Every bit of media he did over his final years made this very plain. Thank god he is gone. The man was toxic, and will be toxic wherever he goe.

Now the thing is....even if all this is true, and the fans are ignorant and ungrateful, what possible benefit is there in saying this out loud so many times. What organisation ever got itself in a good place, pointing out how thick and ungrateful its main customers/stakeholders were? It is so mental as a strategy, I just dont know what their media relations/fan out reach team are doing.

You're in a hole with a significant minority of the fan base. Just stop f**king digging! Stop saying provocative things ffs. Maybe, given that things clearly have been perfect, open up a little bit? We're doing our best....we are outgunned on resources, but we still try to compete as best we can....not every decision has been perfect, and we try to learn from everything, things that go well, things that dont.

FWIW, Knapper did a good job with his interview. He didnt blame the fans for anything. He said they all knew it hadnt been great over the autumn. A lot of work has been going on to make it better. Things are now getting better. That work will continue.

See? It's not f**king hard is it? Alternatively, I suppose he could have started by saying what an amazing job he's doing, how everything is perfect, and how he agrees with Delia and is sick of the sight of the fanbase, who are all entitled morons. Would adopting that tone have made booing more, or less likely do we think?
