and yes, I think a massive mistake from Southgate to agree pre-tournament with the assertion that success would only be winning it.

The fantasy version of the England team we have in our heads with them all playing like they do in the Premier League would still not be a given against a Netherlands playing at their utmost best, and would still be 50-50 at best against a French, Spanish or German team playing to the top of their ability, so I don't understand how we've played so badly yet the expectation has grown.

We will still have to beat the Dutch (probably) and one of France/Germany/Spain/Portugal to win the thing. That's ALWAYS difficult for any team.
