We were unlucky (very?) against Germany twice

Because we were the better side on both occasions. Can't think of any other times we absolutely deserved to progress though (very lunlucky).

Bottom line, we are infinitely better at tournament football now than pretty much ever before since 1966 and here's a tasty little stat to back that up.

Since we won the World Cup, we've participated in 24 Euro/World Cup cycles.

Between 1968 and 2016, we won five knock out games.

In three tournaments since, under Southgate, we've won six.
