There's no way that Max would have got past Lewis if the lapped cars hadn't un-lapped

themselves. I doubt that the car directly behind Lewis would even have got blue-flagged, such would have been the gap pulled at the restart.

What Masi should have done is let the lapped cars through a lap earlier and then they could legitimately have had the single lap racing that they ended up with anyway. I guess he couldn't do that though as the track wasn't clear, and in which case the race would typically have finished behind the safety car. As it was, he tried to find a scenario whereby they could go racing again but (with regard to the regs) got it horribly, horribly wrong.
