This! It sort of goes back to what I was saying earlier about personal accountability.

The choice to carry a knife and use it in an act of violence is wrong, especially in our civilised society. Everyone can probably agree on that as a baseline statement, I’m sure.

There may be other factors in the background that might lead someone to believe they are disadvantaged or don’t have the same opportunities as other people. Of course there will be cases when that is true. Unfortunately though that is life. Nothing is fair and nothing is equal, no matter how much we would like it to be. This is a lesson that I think is not being understood by a lot of younger people today.

I’ll give you an example. In the company I work for, the level of entitlement from some of the younger members of staff is ridiculous, and from a few of the more established people too. The mindset from a lot of these people is about what the company is doing for them, rather than what can they offer the company. Now working for the employer that I do in my industry is a privileged position. You get incredibly well looked after in terms of wages, benefits, training, etc. I spent 7yrs on the outside looking in and it’s a hard industry when you’re working on the outside. But a lot of these people have no idea, because they come through the grad programs in the ‘bubble world’, sheltered from the harsh realities of life outside of our business. But they expect everything given to them on a plate. They wouldn’t last 5mins on the outside.

But all that aside and getting back to the real issue, no matter what your background issues are, in a place like the UK, everyone knows it’s not acceptable to carry a knife with express intent to seriously injure another person. That is a decision that people take that they should be held accountable for.

That was a bit ranty for 03:56 in the morning.
