Clearly cuts to the police don;t help but

It never fails to amaze me how many officers they manage to find when something high profile crops up like a celebrity phone hacking scandal, trying to prove some dead ex politician was a sex offender or pursuing radio 1 DJs who may have touched a few women up 40 years ago.

Hundreds of police officers and millions of pounds are suddenly allocated to such enquiries/operations whilst your regular member of the public sees a police officer on the streets once in a blue moon.

So whilst more money is part of the answer they also need to start prioritising community policing again.
