fwiw, i wasn't there for my father but was for my mother and i regret neither as i didnt have a choice really. if i did have then i think i'd go with being there for their final moments but it depends on the situation, my mother was in a coma and they just turned the machines off and pulled the hoespipes out, it took about twenty minutes for her to "die". the hospital staff were truly outstanding as you can imagine. so, for that reason i'm saying be there for your mum, she will need your strength and support i guess. stiff upper lip old boy and face it full on as it's not going to go round you. and take control of looking after all the practicalities, it takes the burden of your mum and gives your mind something to latch onto.
