Since it's a political morning, did anyone else hear Hazel Blears?

She said she was against grammar schools because she passed the 11 plus, went to grammar school and was in the Cabinet, whereas her brother failed the 11 plus, didn't have the benefit of selective education, and is a bus driver.

Leaving aside the possibility that her brother is just thick, that seemed to me to be a great reason FOR having grammar schools, not AGAINST them. It exactly shows what creaming off bright children into a serious academic environment can do. On her logic, they would both have gone to a "bog standard" comp and they would BOTH be bus drivers. Hooray for selective entry state education: free, quality, gets great results.
