Vincent Kompany is trying the Farke approach this year

Unsurprisingly he isn't doing any better, despite spending about £100m. What these Pep devotees don't seem to realise is that he has invented the greatest tactics ever for beating teams who have worse players than you. That's OK for him as he never has to join a club who don't have access to the best players. For clubs just promoted to the Prem having a tactic based around dominating possession and being technically better is suicide. Luton are doing better this season than Burnley (or us when we had a crack) because they already had a successful tactic that didn't remotely depend on dominating possession so it was easily adaptable to the Prem. If we were serious about staying up the first thing we should have done was ditch Pukki and got a big striker who could win freekicks and relieve the pressure on the defence, hold the ball up and allow other players time to get up in support. Someone like Holt, or Toney. That was never going to happen here under Farke (and I suspect would have been very unpopular with supporters because, let's face it, we all love Pukki)
