He also points out that it's not only Japan whose experience of SARS has got them responding effectively to covid-19 (I'd missed the others in what I posted earlier).

All have taken the other approach to us, based on experience of what happens in these situations. All have achieved significantly better results than countries who have just let things kind of carry on for a bit.
