That doesn't make sense though, they've turned down an election, which may well damage

them, to focus on the No Deal legislation.

Of course they have pushed for an election, that's mainly what an opposition does.

Govt keeps making it easy for them to take that route by ignoring the need to try and build a proper consensus and just appeal to hardline brexit voters.

By the time May did make the offer, it was too far down the road so she couldn't' make any meaningful shift from her established position.

Labour have been clear about the Brexit they want (bear with me here!) but its effectively SM & CU membership, which May ruled out. They are not going to accept a harder Brexit than that, as that has never been their position (despite the ? over what JC actually wants).

So when the only Brexit on offer is harder than they campaigned for, or a No Deal, why would they back either? Having been given no reasonable chance to be involved in the process either, its been made too easy.

Had May bought the House in right at the start, before A50 and agreed something that was at least close to what Labour wanted, she could then have painted them in to a corner.
She didn't, she cut them out and tried to run roughshod. Labour, having been kept out of the process, have defaulted to opposing, as they are the opposition.

Now they've been given some control they are going to make full use of it, who wouldn't?
