Star Wars (or any other set of films - chronological order vs quality of films?

The debate today in the office is how do you watch Star Wars as someone new to the franchise? chronological order i.e episode 1 followed by 2, 3 etc or quality of films, so 4,5, 6 etc

My argument was episode 1 then so on, as you need to understand characters, backstory etc.

same for Marvel films and any other, thoughts please oh mighty Wrath?
