get them to blow when you first stop. Naturally it doesn't work. When you see the other lights turning amber, cry:

"Come on, let Daddy do it then, 1-2-3 blow!" timed to perfection they will turn green and leave them in awe of the Dad Skillz.

(NB: May not work for older kids but mine are at that impressionable age still...)
