But it is still a perilous, terrible, difficult decision which is only half the deal and also (obviously) includes getting the next appointment right. It just isn't that straightforward. Tat is not necessarily about simply siding with the manager.

As for Hughton, I could count on one hand the supporters that thought he should still be in a job by the time he was eventually sacked and yes, you are right, from a footballing perspective, relegation is entirely at his door.

However it also comes back to how difficult and fraught such decisions are. Those who felt we could not improve on him, particularly after we had finished 11th the season before, may have had a point.

Is it just the manager? Does he genuinely deserve to lose his job? Are there other factors? Sorry to be sentimental about these things but sometimes it isn't straightforward and though I probably now wouldn't agree I absolutely understand why the Board, right or wrong, are hesitating.
