When I was first recruited to a company in Holland, that company arranged and paid my accommodation for 3 months, and gave me 3 free return flights home the first year. This offer was extended to my girlfriend, and the HR team even went looking for jobs for her, combined with Dutch courses which they would pay. In the end, I dumped her anyway (!), but they did this for the partners of several colleagues they hired from abroad. They also provided assistance with child-care, schooling for their kids, etc, etc.
This eased the worries of the partners and helped them to agree to move. It also gave them a good feeling about the company's realisation that family is important.
I've seen this kind of thing repeated over and over and different companies for people moving, whether internationally or just within the country. I've even seen one company (European Patent Office) offer to pay 80% of the cost of sending an employee's children to private boarding school in the UK as that employee had mentioned that he was considering moving back to the UK because he wanted his kids to be educated in Britain (for some odd reason).
OK, the last one is a bit extreme, but isn't it about time football just woke up and reached the 21st century, rather than express the apparent belief that wives and girlfriends should shut the f**k up, get back into the kitchen, and not try to interfere with what is after all a man's decision ?
