1. Agree. Result unimportant-as soon as we got the old guff about "...putting in a performance..." you just knew it wasn't going to happen. An absolute nothing season, best forgotten. Dare say the club shop will soon be flogging the "2006-2007 Highlights" DVD though!
2. I cannot see the logic in giving ANY player a 4 year contract-its madness! As for Drury, it seemed, at first, as if it was a temporary loss of form, something that might be understood after he had performed so well for such a long time-literally from his first game. But he's now been underperforming for nigh on three full seasons-and why he remains Captain is beyond me-I can see him as a Club Captain, the player who sorts out the social side, does a lot of off-pitch PR and have you, but he is never-ever going to be a leader on the pitch. Alternatives-well, exactly, are there any?
3. Clubs are known to build their teams around players, we must start to do that with Hucks-someone has just posted that he thinks Grant will do that next season, I hope so. He looked good in attack with Martin, he is devestating on the left -on his day-but that, of course, exposes the out of form Drury. What is his best position? I would say as the "1" in a 4-3-1-2, but don't think we'd dare play that system-have we the players? One to think about, any suggestions as to how we might?
4. Fozzy should come into his own next season-he's a creative midfield player, he's never going to run around making tackles and being the proverbial tenacious midfielder in the Holt mould-he is the sort of player to use the ball, find passes, find space, do the unexpected and cause damage to the opposition-a poor mans Ian Crook I guess. Lets hope he can do that, I am sure thats the sort of thing PG has in mind for him.
5. I hope thats the last time Martin is pushed out onto the right. He needs to play in attack and know thats where we're going to play him. I don't think Earnie and Martin will work, although Hucks and Martin has. Martin and a "new" targetman alongside him, with Hucks just behind? Why not.
6. Yes, we do seem to be creating more chances-not putting them away though. For the last 10-12 matches of the season, I did wonder if we would finally have a day when they all went away and have a 5,6-0 over someone-that away win (0-4) at Derby in the promotion season was an example. Get a bit more ruthless -and lucky- next season, and we should be amongst the goals.
7. We were getting so woeful at corners at one point I thought we were more of a danger to the opposition if they had a goalkick. Clearly something else PG is working on-Shack can be a danger here, so can Dixon, when he comes charging into the penalty area from a cross/corner, its like trying to mark and outwit a tank, such is his strength.
8. Dion's off-suspect he'll be at Leicester, but Worthy won't. I think Earnie knows he has to move on, though he might not want to. Pity.
9. Think Otsombor is done and dusted, Cave-Brown will go off on loan for a season & Colin, if he stays, might be shifted into central defence which was, wasn't it (?), his position at PSV. Certainly think he would be more effective there. Think Safri will be gone by the start of the new season. Doc will be cover at CB. Right back needed (Otsombor) plus new keeper, word has it that the latter will be Coyne, though I'd love it to be Marshall. Add to that a midfielder (from Scotland) & we'll be told that its exciting to have "three new signings" come August.
