The thing that flummoxes me

is that the excuse used for Deansmith (Copyright BWOD) is that this isn't his squad. Yet, what's the point of bringing in a new manager if you don't think they're going to get more out of the current players. I understand that a manager may want and need to adapt/buy in to suit a style of play, but surely there's no point in change if you're going to say it will only improve when that happens, and in our case, knowing it wasn't going to happen in January.
