You can get away with encroaching but only if you don’t impact on the kick

So had an Arsenal encroacher got to it first and scored, we’d have been given a free kick?

A problem I guess would be if an attacker encroaches first but a defender follows, also encroaching and just beats the attacker to the ball. Is it a retake or free kick?
