I take it you think it was a bunch of CIA agents in false beards and with tea towels on their heads that took it down then?

One thing I cant quite work out. If the US Govt *really* wanted to fake a terrorist plot to blow up the twin towers, to the point of going to the trouble of planting explosives and detonating them, why even bother going through the whole 'plane hi-jack thing? It wouldn't have been the first time Al Quaeda has attacked the WTC with explosives. Why come up with such a far fetched plan? Why attack the Pentagon, why not something a little less crucial to the people planning this crazy scheme?

And it just doesn't make sense in any event. Afghanistan wasn't even on the strategic radar pre-9/11, whereas Iraq was. 9/11 meant that they had to divert resources into fighting the Taliban when the hawks of the administration would much rather have been going after Saddam. If this had been a planned event, a much stronger casus belli would have been made connecting 9/11 to Iraq, and we'd have been there much sooner and with wide international support. It makes no sense for them to have planned this attrocity in order to invade Afghanistan, a country with little to offer the West, and then have to scrabble about looking for flimsy excuses to invade Iraq. 9/11 would have been the clearest, most incontrovertible reason for invading Iraq. They would have had a wordwide 'coalition of the willing', possibly even under a UN mandate. But no, they pin the blame on some godforsaken mountainous country that most people couldnt even have pointed to on a map. Bit of an own goal, dont you think??

And lastly, don't you think that if it had been a US plot rather than Bin Laden's, he might just be protesting his innocence in order to highlight the conspiracy rather than taking the 'praise' for it? Or is he just a CIA stooge, and it was really the CIA behind the USS Cole attack, the East African embassy bombs etc etc?

I really dont understand why people feel spend so much of their time trying to blame the US Govt rather than accepting the reality that terrorist f**kers like Bin Laden get kicks out of killing people on a grand scale.

Does make for some comedy discussions though.
