I'm saying we have to be better tactically and more importantly better at recruitment in terms of spending the small amount of money we have.

I totally agree there is some variance (luck) to recruitment but that's why you don't put all your eggs in one basket. You spread out the risk with signings knowing a lot won't make it.
Are the players we spent vast sums on vastly better than players we have recruited on the cheap?

If we can't tell then clearly we have overpaid and should be doing more of the latter and recruiting/developing more of the youth players.

Also have we totally given up on recruiting from LG1 and LG2...
There has to be some cheaper players in those leagues who have enough quality and grit to help the team, even as bench options to see out games.
