I had hip pain a while back
Call from GP saying - oh you have arthritis in your knee so it's probably arthritis, I'll send over some exercises. I obviously sounded a little um - no further checks given that you can't see my hip on a phone call - so they offered an x-ray. Not arthritis, so then did get referred to physio.
I don't mind phone consultations, but I'd say you definitely need to request a GP to at least refer you for scan/x-rays.
Even when I've had private physio they've recommended going to GP to get confirmation on the problem.
(I know I'm saying the same as everyone else really)
