It wasn't for no reason. You can't disregard the context of what is happening in the game

A throw in is being taken, Kenny looks and sees his man making a move to get in front of him to receive the ball.

He puts his arms out to try and block that run. Yes, he misjudges it and catches him in the face.

However, it's very clear (to me) he's not taken a deliberate swing at him.

Therefore it's only a red card if that is considered excessive force that is in danger of injuring the player.

It isn't for me, but I guess you could take a different view on that. However, if you do, how many red cards would there be per game? And would Grant Holt / Iwan Roberts have ever finished a match?
