His shoulder was deemed offside, which under the current rule it still would be since it covers any part of "head, body or feet" being nearer to the opponent's goal than the second last defender. If the current rule was meant to "help strikers get an advantage" you wouldn't be seeing players penalised for kneecaps or even backsides being a few inches offside, which we have all last season. That should never be an offence.
