So today
In effort to drive from my mind the thought that SW has sacked DF because he was more concerned about his own reputation in the future job market than the future of the club, I'm going to think of nice, positive things to say about FL, clap, clap, clap:
- the players will probably react well to him, at least initially, and we'll get some sort of bounce, which would be handy
- he won't be overawed by the league, the pressure and so on
- he knows the standard required
- he might bring some decent coaches with him, and that might count for more than his own coaching ability
- his teams seem to play decent attacking football
- he was a v good player, and must surely have learned s'thing communicable about how he achieved that;
- he's under his own pressure to succeed
- he's not scared of using young players
- despite what some say, he seems (?) reasonably decent (this last, a bit of an unknown)
So, rationally - though I wouldn't have got myself into this position in the first place, and would have preferred a much more experienced manager - I can see the upsides (as against the other named candidates). Hard to say what my instinct tells me, since it mainly tells me not to f**king sack DF unless you've got someone pretty bloody impressive lined up, a la Watford.
