Most hire cars in the UK are stick shift, I imagine that would be difficult

If you currently drive an automatic, even using the wrong hand to change gear. If you need an automatic you will need to request it specifically.

Big challenge on the road might be roundabouts if you are not used to them. I only remember one in my travels in North America, heading north from Boston Airport.
