I guess :)

Stewart Lee's most recent stand up skit, quirks at that

I did a gig up north somewhere and they didn't see the joke in St Margarets Weight Watchers and Ethnic Debate Society, which we don't have where I live, but they didn't laugh

Mainly because, the people in the audience have that kind of attitude about the south that they go "well I wouldn't be surprised if they did have that down south, it sounds like something the south would do"

I did laugh at the joke, and myself at the same time :)

Works vice versa though

I was stood at the bar the other day and a guy from London was stood with someone he worked with, and the question was "how you finding it up here", and this guy tried his best to go the whole "well you know, it is up north and it's not ideal cos it's the north, weirdos", and he couldn't do it. The nearest he got to was "well it's a lot different up here, things are a bit slower and it's very small, but we've grown to like that very quickly, the girls have certainly settled in and everyone seems really nice"

Although they're really pleasant things to say. If I went and moved to London, I'd still expect people in villages and surround areas, or even in towns or cities, to be civil to each other

What was he expecting, us all to tell him to eff off as soon as he walked through the walls?

My annoyance with the south is only due to hogging anything cultural, and it's got to the point where the government has had to stop being like that spread it's wings, for the country's own good

Sometimes they get it wrong (ie the armouries museum in leeds should have probably been in york, and would be a must for any visitor to York, yet was built in Leeds, and the relevance doesn't really work), but in the main, they have to try and put museums galleries and culture away from London, or they'll forever be bragging about subsidising the rest of the country if they're going to hog it all

It's worked wonders for Newcastle (although that was down to an awful lot of local leg work to achieve that), and Newcastle has ditched it's shabby city tag, largely the same as Leeds and Sheffield has improved

It was a sad world when Manchester did the commonwealth games without a fault or organised failing. Yet listening to a radio 5 phone in, and it was all "yeah battt it's appp naourff, and it shad be enn Laaaanndon"
