You know, I am starting to think that there may just be something in this "overpaid

and pampered and therefore not really hungry for success any more" theory

I never really bought it, because to succeed in top level sport (and being picked for England IS success when you think how many millions you have competed with to get there) you have to be a pretty bloody competitive person, and it's difficult to believe that it all just disappears. But maybe the years of very high wages and all the lifestyle going with them DOES take its toll on their desire and passion for the game.
