Figuring that when the bubble burst, a ton of clubs would go to the wall, and things would return to how they once were. But it ain't going to happen: not in a world of clubs selling individual rights, telecommunications massively increasing the value they can fetch, and a number of huge clubs becoming global brands.
Look at Arsenal: remember them under Graham? Remember the likes of Jimmy Carter, Gus Caesar, Steve Morrow, Glenn Helder... even in a way, as much as I liked him, Ray Parlour? Now look at them: they're on another planet. And you can probably expect the likes of Newcastle, Spurs or last night's opponents to move wholly out of our stratosphere over the next few years too. It's bloody depressing - but winning at places like Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea will surely never happen again.
