I think what people are saying is...

...with regards to the McCann case, is that the papers would have been demanding that social services take their kids off them if they were an unattractive council flat couple on benefits.

As it happens, the fact that they are high-paid professionals plays a big part in how the tabloids have got on their side, even though it's perfectly feasible that they were involved in their own daughter's death.
