why do better players/team outperform xG

If you accept the fact they do, then you must accept that they assigned a value that is wrong.

So when you see an xG published that takes no account to the quality of the two teams it means very little at best.

Its stupid that I would be assigned the same probability of a situation as Messi because its the same spot.
