It's not legal according to the unions and employment lawyers I've heard but

no one will go to jail, it'll just cost them less in the long run to cough up a bit extra now rather than go through all the consultation palaver involved with mass redundancies.

Again, that's if I understand it correctly from what they're saying on the radio this morning. I'm not an employment expert.

They (the holding company) paid 300 million to shareholders last year and 100mm sponsoring golf.
