The book Barbarians At The Gate mentions the flop Premier a smokeless cigarette

This was abandoned quickly as it tasted awful.
Also most cigarette companies have been cash cows for decades pumping out cash to shareholders rather than innovation. The big conglomerates were caught out by vaping and ended up buying some of the vaping companies.
