The problem with that is that it's a UK-only solution

so all the good players will go to clubs abroad -> EPL no longer such an attractive proposition -> broadcasting rights' value goes through the floor -> teeth are gnashed, and wailing ensues.

Honestly I'd top-slice the TV income on the argument that with no supporting pyramid the EPL will die anyway. That's more tenuous than it once was but still true. Duration of covid plus two years and then see where we all sit, but expectation of some enlarged subvention in perpetuity.
