because he's had two poor seasons and one good one. Normally that would be enough to get rid of the manager and move on.
But the one good season was so good, it still seems premature to get rid of him. But, as you said, it is so hard for a manager and players to recover trust from relegation. Especially one like this when we have been so bad, for so long.
Hopefully, for all their public backing, the board have a contingency plan lined up in case things are clearly not heading in the right direction by October / November.
