Yup

I guess I’m philosophically a bit more que sera. I look at the way the totalitarian states have controlled it, and the way the liberal European democracies haven’t, and I can see the advantages of totalitarianism in this situation, but on balance I’m still glad I live in a liberal democracy. And if we (the UK) were failing to do things other liberal democracies were doing, or if our figures were much much worse than theirs, I’d be angry and concerned. But they aren’t, so I’m not. We seem to be doing sensible enough things given our societal context, just like the French and the Germans and the Spanish and the Dutch. None of it is really stopping it in its tracks, for any of us. Shit happens.
