If you genuinely don't waste money

on luxury items (people can convince themselves non essentials ARE essentials) then yes you can. If you were renting then for £550 you'd do well to find something (a flat) big enough to fit all five of you in comfortably. Presume you have the deposit sorted?

Advice I had as a young guy and the same advice I gave my sons was to go for the highest you can "just" afford as things will get easier over time.
