Because they respect binding international agreements?

*We*, the UK, signed up to the Good Friday Agreement and all it entails.

*We*, the UK, asked for the backstop as a means of ensuring an open border.

Thw EU dont want an internal border for all of the same reasons that we dont want one. That is why it is as important to them as it should still be to us.

It is the UK inflicting this situation on everyone, not the EU, so why should it be the EU that has to cut off one of its members just to satisfy the UK?
