and if i might draw on Blackadder, is a good hard shag.
Cards on the table, i'm a fervent remainer, because i believe we maximise our world influence by being a big fish in the EU, i believe we benefit profoundly economically from being within single market and the customs union, and i also believe in forming ever closer ties with our friends in Europe (rather than regarding European neighbours as invading scum that needs to be repelled).
I've listened to countless debates on Brexit, read post after post on here, and I'm still waiting for one good argument to come out. Just one f**king argument that can't be dismissed by a 5 year old applying elementary logic. The wait goes on.
Thing is, every Brexiteer is just as entrenched as I am. They think that I'm wrong about everything, just like I think they're wrong about everything. And as far as I can see, there's not going to be anyway of resolving this. I'm not going to change my mind. And apparently, neither are they.
We need proof by demonstration. This is the only way to bring the country back together.
What I'm proposing is that we toss the keys to the country to the ERG, and let them rip.
We need to crash out next Friday, and see what happens by way of disruption and fairly immediate company and capital flight. Then we'll see what Project Fear looks like.
Then, we need to start negotiating a trade deal with the EU from a position of abject weakness. Then, as the EU begins to f**k us backwards, we'll see who needs who more, and whether "the German car companies won't let it happen".
Then, we need to start negotiating a trade deal with the US, and feel what its like negotiating a deal as a single, medium sized, largely irrelevant nation versus a global superpower. I reckon the US will definitely give us whatever we want, because....errr.....special relationship. They wouldnt f**k us would they?
Then, we need to start negotiating a trade deal with China. They're going to give us whatever we want and play really nice, arent they? They wouldnt f**k us, would they?
I want the ERG to take over and unilaterally reduce import tariffs to zero, which is their proposal, and watch the decimation of a number of UK sectors (including the entire food production sector) as a result.
And on and on it will go. I havent even mentioned the Irish border - i mean its not like the ERG give one solitary f**king s**t about it either.
This is the only way forward if we want a united country. We need to let the ERG burn the whole f**king place to the ground. A year might be enough. Maximum two.
Then we'll be able to go "See? Do you see now what we meant?".
We can then all come together, as one, with a common understanding of what might make sense for the country from that point on. No doubt there will still be some differences, but at least we can stop f**king arguing pointlessly about Brexit.
Who else is with me? Rees-Mogg for PM. Bojo for Chancellor.
