I disagree with your comparisons

When you were at work, either building or in the fire service, did you regularly have members of the public hurling abuse at you and questioning your ability (however justified?) while you were trying to do your job?

There's different ways to criticise, and the purpose of doing so should be to put things back on track... If that's not working, then the criticism is counterproductive.

Different people have different tolerance levels. I've just been having to tackle a member of the public who subjected a highly skilled PhD who works for me to horrible abuse because they didn't understand what they were being told (and didn't wait to find out).

Nobody should be expected to take appalling abuse from randomers at work.

In my opinion.
