Surely it's the function of a Sporting Director to appoint the football staff? On the one

hand you belittle his input ("not sure it's rocket science") and on the other you acknowledge that he would be a big loss.

It may not be rocket science, but he's doing it sufficiently impressively to catch the attention of other Clubs, and for fans to be nervous about losing him.
