You are right about the people that 'they' got in in 2009 but the banks had as much say back then and the owners had to take a relative back seat while others got to grips with the mess we were in.
They did that for a while but the success since has seen them back in the driving seat and taking the direction we are now heading. The likes of Ed Balls, Steve Stone and Boy Tom aren't going to rock the boat even if we go down to the third tier again.
For those of us of a certain generation who are now told that the club has to be treated as a community asset, a cooperative or anything else other than what you actually want to hear, while the likes of Watford, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and others surpass us under owners with more means, it is as you say more difficult to care as much as we did before.
