I'm not sure the prem money nor the wealth of their owners is that much of a red herring

Its much easier to implement such a system if you have a billionaire owner sitting behind you guaranteeing you financially and whilst they have brought through a lot of talent they have also spent quite heavily in recent years, an example being when in the premier league they were able to outbid us (and probably of more relevance out pay us in term of wage offer) for Van Dijk from Celtic.

If we are not careful then we will end up being a (larger) modern day version of Crewe Alexandra.
