Don't be scared to run slower and walk for recovery

Swing your arms when you walk, it promotes oxygen and blood flow.

Once you've got your breath back, start again at a slower pace, so it becomes declining intervals of running. It's how I started. And I'm doing my first marathon next weekend! (gulp)

Also, do you have asthma or a history of repository infection? If so you might want to get the doctor to do a peak flow to ensure there's no damage in there.
