Personally I don't understand why McNally is not blamed more for the current malaise

Player recruitment has been a shambles for several seasons, with changes of personnel, the wrong kinds of targets and lurching from one supposed strategy for another. This is one area where a club of our size / resources needs a competitive edge but in fact we seem to punch below our weight. We might not be able to match Southampton's sophistication but we can do a lot better than we do at the moment.

Lets not forget that when Neil arrived he went on the record to say that there was basically no proper scouting or recruitment system in place. That is shocking and falls at McNally's desk. We badly needed two centre halves that summer and we finally managed to get one (Klose) in January. Too little too late.

Then he resigns throwing the club into disarray and undermining the preparations for this season. In particular we needed to be offloading several players to lower the wages and freshen things up and I'm pretty sure that his departure probably didn't help in that regard.
