I give him credit for fronting up. Very few managers would discuss things as openly as he did there.
On the "if I'm not here" thing: I think he's just trying to play pretty much the last card at his disposal. Warning his players that many will be off, sharpish, if he gets the chop. Meaning, in theory at least, they have a stake in pulling out all the stops. Not that this approach has worked up until now, mind.
It does sound for all the world, though, like the club has recognised it has an appalling recruitment problem. Trouble is, I doubt it has the remotest clue how to fix it.
