On the surface it looks as if things have gone wrong recently. However,

the fact remains that defending was an issue last season and we signed no defenders. The squad is overloaded with attacking midfielders, so much so that one of AN's big money summer signings doesn't even get a look in at the moment. AN has some serious questions about his transfer dealings to answer. Early season victories over poor sides (almost all in the bottom reaches of the table now) were papering over the cracks, and even then we couldn't keep a clean sheet. I was a fan of AN. Even when we were relegated I thought he was cute enough to learn but subsequent events have now left me thinking he lacks the imagination or know-how to take what is a relatively strong squad into a challenging position come next May. Last time out we were lucky that there were not too many other challengers, this season there are many sides who have a realistic chance of going up. Sorry Mr Neil but the time has come to go.
