Do you really think that players who read this board (and I doubt there are many who don't) are likely to be upset at reading our observations? I'm not necessarily arguing with Arganth - more, I'm looking for a sweep of opinions. Me, I doubt they'll be that bothered.
1) - the Gay Rumour thing. I've been in The Labourforce since 1977 and though The Workplace has changed a great deal in that time one thing has remained consistent: all men accuse each other of homosexuality pretty much all the time, with varying degrees of humour/sincerity.
In fact, in our factory we've been running a truce since the turn of the year - 26 days without accusations of gayness. The truce is holding, though it's wobbling. Conversation, overall, has decreased. Nobody meant anything by it, everyone had a laugh, the truce only came about because one of the blokes broke etiquette.
I bet the two players involved in the Rumour had a good laugh about it. Straw poll question - how upset would YOU be if you were one of the highly-paid people involved?
2) the 'insert name here' is s**te thing. OK I accept Arganth may have a point here, but only where the Shite Player is a youngster. I think that if I were Hendo, Shacks, Cave-Dweller or Rossi it'd hurt to play a game among the first team, anxious to follow Nigel's dubious instructions, and then read on here that you're the worst player ever to wear the shirt/will never make it/should be sold to Rochdale.
But where the player is established in the game (not just at the club) I think it'd be water off the proverbial duck. One thing that characterises every player or manager I've heard speak is a monstrous arrogance in that they know a lot more about the game than the fans.
Straw poll question - if someone criticised YOU, in the way you performed your job, and your job required special training that you knew your critic hadn't received, how upset would YOU be?
