The moment you have to speak to a Wrangler is the moment your tippage chances go from 99%

to 1% chance.

As you so wisely state, the questions are designed to catch you out. This is to be expected, they revel in it.
My last time went like this:

Wrangler: "What you dumping?
MW: "wood"
W: "how much you got?"
MW: "old fence panel and rabbut hutch, all broken up"
W: "is it 80 litres?"
MW: "No...a car full, why"
W: "you can only dump 80 litres of wood"
MW: "well you can fanny about measuring if you want, I'm going to tip it"

FUCK YOU WRANGLER

One tactic is to have a co-tippee and get them (ideally a woman) to take some seriously solid metal item (eg bike frame, old bit of pipework etc) and feign confusion as to where it goes.

Of course they'll be all over to claim to put it in the right compartment (a handy spot next to the metal recycyling, but not actually amongst it...) leaving you scott free to dump broken glass, paint, all the wall mounted cupboards you can carry etc.
