As has been said before - we couldn't spend that much money until we were *certain* the Ashton cash was incoming. And as Pardew said last night, they were desperate to announce the signing before last night's game.

Afraid we just have to face the fact that, just as we got over-the-odds cash 'cos of transfer window-desperation, we're gonna have to pay over-the odds for his replacement, too.

As I say, forget the sums involved on each side - Ashton for Jerome + Halford doesn't sound like too bad a deal to me.

Although that is in almost complete ignorance of either of them, I have to admit....
